Napoli are confident of signing Martin Skrtel from Liverpool when the transfer window swings back open in January.

The Azzurri tried to buy the Slovak centre-back in the summer, but saw their efforts rebuffed. However, with Liverpool signing Mamadou Sakho and Tiago Ilori on transfer deadline day, while Kolo Toure was snapped up earlier in the summer, the signs have shifted.

According to Italian daily Tuttosport, Napoli are sure of being able to sign Skrtel in January, although they anticipate the transfer will not be cheap.

Indeed, the Serie A side envisage paying around €10m to secure Skrtel.

Napoli boss Rafael Benitez is keen to have the player he signed during his time in charge of Liverpool at his disposal.

Skrtel arrived at Anfield from Zenit St. Petersburg in 2008, but has fallen out of favour under current manager Brendan Rodgers.

He had been expected to quit Liverpool in the summer.
