Hamburg are parting company with coach Thorsten Fink, with the club's 6-2 defeat against Borussia Dortmund at the weekend proving to be the final straw.

According to Kicker, a meeting held late last night by Hamburg's board took the decision to part company with Fink.

A major concern has been the number of goals the team have been conceding, with 15 conceded in just five Bundesliga games so far.

And panic gripped the club that a relegation battle could ensue if Fink were not removed.

Former Stuttgart, Hertha Berlin and Hoffenheim coach Markus Babbel is believed to be the front-runner to replace Fink.

Hamburg appointed Fink in 2011, tempting the German from Swiss giants Basel.

The 45-year-old turned out most notably for Bayern Munich in his playing days. He operated as a midfielder.

The 29-year-old has started the current campaign in red hot form, scoring four goals in Leverkusen's five Bundesliga games so far, along with providing a healthy three assists.
