Olivier Giroud has revealed that he wants the Arsenal faithful to consider him in the same class as Thierry Henry and Robin van Persie.

Both Henry and Van Persie scored prolifically for Arsenal, becoming widely regarded as legends, until the latter tarnished his reputation with the club's fans somewhat by moving to Manchester United last summer.

Nevertheless, Giroud is yet to be grouped in such company – and the former Montpellier striker would like that to eventually change.

"Thierry Henry and Robin van Persie didn't become the players they are within one season", Giroud explained to L'Equipe.

"I've reached a very high level at 25 years old.

"Take Van Persie. He really exploded two, three years ago at Arsenal.

"With regards to Thierry Henry, I scored as many goals as him during my first season*. *[Giroud scored less than Henry, 22 in all competitions to 26, ed.]

"I like the idea of establishing myself as striker number one at Arsenal, and that later on people say 'at Arsenal there was Henry, Van Persie and Giroud'."

Giroud has started the current season in sparkling form for the Gunners, finding the back of the net four times in four Premier League matches.

He still has some way to go to match the feats of Henry and Van Persie however.
