Manchester United manager David Moyes has refused to take the credit for Wayne Rooney's upsurge in form, insisting the plaudits must only go to the striker himself.

Rooney scored against Crystal Palace last weekend in a Premier League clash before following that performance up with a brace against Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League in midweek, which took him to the 200 goals mark for the English champions.

Moyes was happy to see the England international in top notch form, but has been quick to suggest he cannot take any credit for it.

"Don't for one minute think I am going to take the credit. The credit is for Wayne Rooney for getting himself the way he is", he explained via his club's official site.

"We are here to help make him better. It is up to Wayne to do it. He takes the credit for that.

"He was always a great player, even when he was leaving Everton he had the potential. He had all the ability in the world.

"Could he pull it all together? He has proved that over many years."
