Napoli still have Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel in their sights and are poised to move to sign the centre-back in the January transfer window.

The Serie A giants were keen on snapping up Skrtel in the summer, but could not get a deal over the line. However, with Liverpool now boasting Kolo Toure, Daniel Agger, Mamadou Sakho, Tiago Ilori and Sebastian Coates on their centre-back books, along with Skrtel, Napoli are positive over completing the capture.

According to Italian daily Tuttosport, Napoli coach Rafael Benitez is in regular contact with the player's representatives and has let it be known he wants Skrtel at the San Paolo.

The player too is also believed to be keen to link up with his former manager at Liverpool and is relishing an opportunity to play in the Champions League once again.

Skrtel was relegated to the bench in the second half of last season by Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers and the Reds' recruitment of new defenders has left the door open for the Slovakian to leave.

He has continued to show his quality though and put in a man of the match performance as Liverpool beat Manchester United 1-0 at the start of this month.

Also on Napoli's January wanted list is left-back Cristian Ansaldi, who currently turns out in Russia for Zenit St. Petersburg.
