Queens Park Rangers have confirmed the signing of striker Javier Chevanton on a three-month deal.

The former Uruguay international was a free agent following his release from Italian outfit Lecce, a club where he has had three spells during his career.

The 33-year-old, who has been training with the Hoops in recent weeks, is looking forward to plying his trade in England.

“I am really looking forward to the challenge of playing in England. I have scored goals all around Europe and I am confident I can continue that record with QPR”, he told the club’s official site.

“When I was younger, I loved watching English football. The atmosphere here is great and when the chance came to join QPR, it was all I wanted.”

Manager Harry Redknapp was also pleased to rope in Chevanton, as he feels that the Uruguayan will give the Loftus Road outfit an additional option in attack following injuries to strikers Andy Johnson and Bobby Zamora.

“Javier has spent time with us and integrated into the group very well”, Redknapp said.

“He arrives with a good pedigree and gives us a much-needed extra option in attack.”

Chevanton, who is contracted with QPR until 24th December, earned 22 caps for his nation between 2001 and 2008.
