Italian giants Inter will move to rival Manchester United for out-of-favour Barcelona midfielder Alex Song in the January transfer window.

Song is desperate for playing time and struggled to impose himself at the Camp Nou last term, something which led his cousin Rigobert Song to lift the lid on his unhappiness.

The midfielder was expected to quit Barcelona, but eventually decided to stay put a little longer, with his former manager at Arsenal, Arsene Wenger, strongly advising that course of action.

So far this season the 26-year-old has played in just two La Liga matches and a number of clubs are alive to his situation, most notably Manchester United, who are poised to try to strengthen their midfield options in January.

However, according to Italian outlet Sportmediaset, Inter will rival the Red Devils for the former Arsenal man's signature.

The Nerazzurri have made a bright start to the season under new coach Walter Mazzarri and are prepared to back the ex-Napoli man in the new year.

Song is under contract at Barcelona until 2017.
