Manchester United are considering a January transfer window bid for Barcelona starlet Sergi Roberto, according to Catalan daily Sport.

The English Premier League champions struggled to reinforce their midfield over the summer, only managing to sign Marouane Fellaini from Everton just before the window slammed shut.

Red Devils boss David Moyes missed out on much publicised transfer targets Cesc Fabregas, Thiago Alcantara, Daniele De Rossi, Ander Herrera and Luka Modric.

But he is already eyeing making amends in January, and Roberto is reported to be on his list.

The 21-year-old is a product of the club's youth system and has seen the majority of his first team action with Barcelona's B team.

Roberto's contract at the Camp Nou expires in the summer of 2015. He has already made three appearances in La Liga for the Blaugrana so far this season, though all came from the bench.

The midfielder is yet to be capped for Spain at senior level, but has represented the country up to Under-21 level.
