Sami Hyypia has admitted that he dreams of managing Liverpool, even if he is currently very happy in charge of Bayer Leverkusen.

The giant Finn led Leverkusen to third spot in the Bundesliga last term and is rapidly establishing the club as genuine challengers to the Bayern Munich-Borussia Dortmund duopoly.

But his long term future may not be at the BayArena, with Liverpool, where he turned out for ten years between 1999 and 2009, forever in his heart.

"I have two places that are in my heart", Hyypia told Bild.

"I was born in Finland and the national team is the greatest job.

"Liverpool have the second place in my heart.

"I will not say [managing them] is a goal, but after the ten years I played there it would be a dream to be Liverpool's coach at some point.

"But I live in the moment and that is Bayer 04 Leverkusen – and it's really good fun."

Hyypia is currently Leverkusen's most successful ever coach on a points per match basis.

The former centre-back remains a cult figure at Liverpool, having won the Champions League with the club in 2005.
