Paris Saint-Germain have not abandoned the idea of signing Juan Mata from Chelsea, according to Le 10 Sport.

The French champions were linked with riding to Mata's rescue during the summer transfer window, with a late, late bid on the cards for the Spain international.

However, Mata stayed put and despite a rocky start under Jose Mourinho has now forced his way into the Portuguese's Chelsea team.

With an abundance of midfield options at Stamford Bridge though Mata's steady stream of first team football is far from secure.

And PSG are keeping a close watch on his situation, with a possible January transfer swoop in the offing.

Mata joined Chelsea in the summer of 2011 from Valencia and quickly established himself as a firm fan favourite with consistently impressive performances.

The Spaniard picked up the Champions League and FA Cup during his first season at Stamford Bridge, while he won the Europa League with the Blues last term.
