Chelsea are keeping tabs on the situation of defender Marc Bartra at Barcelona ahead of a possible swoop.

The 22-year-old has seen action in the Blaugrana first-team this season, with two appearances in La Liga and two in the Champions League to his name.

However, the central defender, who can also operate as a right-back if required, has a contract which is due to expire next summer.

And according to Tutto Mercato, Chelsea have been alerted to the possibility of signing the Spaniard.

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is well aware of Barta's talents having spent three years in Spain in charge of Real Madrid prior to moving to Stamford Bridge this summer.

Bartra is a product of Barcelona's esteemed youth system and has represented Spain at various youth levels, helping the country's Under-21s to win this summer's European Championship in Israel.

Barcelona's stance on a bid for Bartra remains to be seen, but Chelsea may be an appealing destination for the 22-year-old.
