Wolfsburg have confirmed an interest in Kevin De Bruyne, a player they feel may now be open to heading to the Volkswagen Arena from Chelsea.

The Wolves were one of a number of Bundesliga sides to track De Bruyne last summer, after he had spent a successful season with fellow German side Werder Bremen on loan.

However, the attacking midfielder rebuffed all approaches in the hope of making the grade under Jose Mourinho at Stamford Bridge.

So far that has not worked out though, with Mourinho now regularly omitting him from matchday squads in preference of other options.

While the official position from De Bruyne's camp is that their client wants to stay and fight for a spot at Chelsea, there have been hints the looming 2014 World Cup could force a change of heart in January.

And Wolfsburg have rolled out the red carpet.

"We as a club have shown interest in the services of Kevin De Bruyne", sporting director Klaus Allofs told Sky Deutschland.

"During the summer we dropped out because Chelsea did not want to let him go.

"Now however he has no spot, so we will check with him again."
