Erik Lamela knows he must quickly adapt to the demands of English football as he is keen to keep hold of his Argentina spot for next summer's World Cup.

The Argentine winger made the move from Italian Serie A side Roma to English Premier League outfit Tottenham Hotspur in the summer transfer window, being earmarked in some quarters as a replacement for Gareth Bale, who joined Real Madrid.

Lamela appreciates that there is some adapting to do when it comes to swapping Italian for English football.

But he is determined to get to grips with the demands of the Premier League, especially with the World Cup on the horizon.

Speaking to Argentine daily Clarin, Lamela said: "English football is much more physical than the Italian game, which is based more on tactics.

"I talked a lot with my team-mates and I know that I have to adapt as quickly as possible if I do not want to lose my place at the World Cup."

Lamela has yet to start a Premier League game this season, although he has been introduced to the action four times from the bench.
