Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert has backed Matthew Lowton to regain his spot in the club’s starting line-up.
The right-back was in good form for the Villains last term and made 37 Premier League appearances for his side in addition to featuring in seven domestic cup matches.
But the 24-year-old has not been involved in the Claret and Blues’ last two matches as Lambert preferred summer signing Leandro Bacuna in the right-back slot.
However, the manager is confident that Lowton will take up the challenge of reclaiming his place in the side and added that he has been impressed with the former Sheffield United player’s efforts in training.

"The challenge is there to him", Lambert told his club’s official site.
"It has been thrown at him and you have to step up to the challenge, which I know he will. He'll come back.
"He played 38 games for us at a really, really high level – consistent as the day is long.
"Then all of a sudden you find 'I'm not playing, I'm not starting'.
"But it makes you determined to get back in and he has trained really well, Matty.”
Lowton joined Villa from Sheffield United last summer and has thus far made 49 appearances in all competitions for the club, netting twice.
