Liverpool legend Ian Rush has heaped praise on Steven Gerrard for scoring 100 goals in the Premier League.

The midfielder achieved the feat when he coolly tucked home a penalty in his side’s 2-2 draw against Newcastle United on Saturday.

And Rush feels that it is an “incredible achievement” for Gerrard to score 100 league goals, when taking into account he is a midfielder.

The Welshman has hence lauded the 33-year-old for being a proven goalscorer in addition to being a one-club man.

"It's an incredible achievement and all for Liverpool Football Club as well. That's another good thing”, Rush explained to Liverpool’s official site.

"It's an incredible achievement from a midfielder; you expect forwards to do it, but for Stevie as a midfielder to do that is an incredible achievement.

"That goes to show how good a player he has been. For Stevie to do that from midfield shows his loyalty to the club, but also what a great goalscorer he is."

Gerrard is a product of Liverpool’s youth set-up and made his debut for the club in 1998.

The England international, whose current deal with the Reds runs until 2015, has scored a total of 161 goals in 640 appearances in all competitions for the Merseyside club.

He has also been capped 107 times by the Three Lions and has 21 international goals to his name.
