Liverpool winger Raheem Sterling has admitted that he has not played as much as he would have liked this season, but insists that the Reds’ success is the most important thing.

The 18-year-old has been mostly used as a substitute in the present campaign by Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers, and the youngster has had just two starts in all competitions while coming off the bench on seven occasions.

However, Sterling claimed that he is hopeful about receiving and grabbing the chance to start when thrown at him by Rodgers.

The England international also lauded Liverpool for their impressive opening to the season which sees the club sit in third spot in the Premier League with 17 points from eight fixtures.

"I've not played as much as I'd have liked to, but the team are doing well and that's the most important thing at this moment in time", he told Liverpool’s official site.

"Hopefully I'll get my chance and hopefully I'll take it. But the team has been great so far this season.

"My contribution has been coming off the bench and having to defend more than I'm used to.

“But as long as the team is winning, that's the most important thing. I'm not in a rush."

Sterling, who is contracted with Liverpool until 2018, has made a total of 48 appearances for the club, netting three times.
