Wolfsburg sporting director Klaus Allofs admits that he would not turn his back on the chance to sign Kevin De Bruyne from Chelsea and Shinji Kagawa from Manchester United in January.

However, the former Werder Bremen deal-maker insists any deals must be well thought out and does not want to raise player recruitment expectations at the Volkswagen Arena.

Both De Bruyne and Kagawa have experience of playing in Germany's Bundesliga and impressing.

And each is finding the going tougher in England's Premier League, which has given rise to talk of a return to German football in the new year.

Wolfsburg, who pulled off the big money signing of Luiz Gustavo from Bayern Munich in the summer, would not look away if presented with the opportunity to bag the pair.

"We want to complete transfers which make sense, such as the one now with Luiz Gustavo", Allofs explained to Bild.

"In terms of magnitude and the amount we spent, it was extraordinary. We still want to continue and improve our team. But we don't do things without thinking them through.

"At Werder I saw how well De Bruyne played. At Dortmund one could see how great Kagawa was.

"If players like that were possible, well of course you would think of them.

"But in the end you mustn't give people hope and in the end they say 'you didn't manage to get him again'."
