Spanish giants Barcelona and English heavyweights Liverpool are set to collide in the transfer market as both clubs keep their eyes transfixed on promising youngster Juan Iturbe.

Iturbe, dubbed the next Lionel Messi in some quarters, is currently on loan at newly-promoted Serie A side Hellas Verona and has done much to help them reach fifth place in the table so far.

Indeed, the Argentine has already scored two goals and provided an assist in just six appearances for the Italian minnows, despite his young age of 20.

Both Barcelona and Liverpool are keen to continue tracking the starlet and they are prepared to talk to Iturbe's parent club FC Porto to seal a deal in future.

The Camp Nou outfit, however, are believed to be ahead in the race to sign the young Argentine, according to Portuguese daily A Bola, with a potential offer of €15m mooted.

For their part, Liverpool have already sent scouts to Verona to signal their interest and to inform Barcelona they are not alone in chasing Iturbe's signature.

Iturbe's current contract with Porto is set to expire in 2016.
