The agent of in-demand Barcelona right-back Martin Montoya believes it is too soon to talk about his client quitting the Camp Nou in January, despite his contract continuing to tick down.

Montoya's deal with Barcelona expires next summer and he has yet to extend it, with a lack of first team football at the Spanish champions a genuine concern.

Montoya's agent has already admitted if that does not change his client is likely to leave, words which alerted the 22-year-old's suitors, an elite bunch which includes English pair Liverpool and Manchester United, Italian outfits Inter and Napoli, along with German club Bayer Leverkusen.

But Montoya's agent is in no mood to fuel the transfer fires just yet.

"He has a few more months left on his contract with the Catalan club and is thinking about giving the maximum for [coach] Tata Martino, concentrating on carving out a spot at Barcelona", Jose Maria Orobitg told Tutto Mercato.

"With the club we are talking about a renewal, but there is nothing yet as the situation is a little complicated.

"At the moment it is too soon to talk about a possible transfer in January. We will evaluate the situation more as we move forward."

Montoya has managed to feature just four times for Barcelona so far this season, with all his appearances coming in La Liga.
