Nicklas Bendtner has revealed he was extremely disappointed when Arsene Wenger vetoed his departure from Arsenal this summer.

The striker had been negotiating to leave the Gunners all summer long, having spent the previous two seasons away from the club on loan at Sunderland and Juventus respectively.

Bendtner claims he had three sides all waiting for him to give the green light to a switch, but then Wenger prevented him from quitting Arsenal when failing to land a replacement.

Bendtner explained to Danish daily Berlingske: "I had it all in place – there were three clubs just waiting for me to say yes to one of them.

"It [staying] was not the mindset I had. I was incredibly disappointed when he [Wenger, ed.] called because I was ready to move on.

"And I actually did not think they wanted to keep me."

Bendtner also explained the instant change in his situation at Arsenal, where he had been stuck with the reserves over the summer.

"When I had been at the club since I was 16, I found it totally ridiculous that they had placed me in the reserves and let me train by myself.

"Suddenly everything was back to normal: I trained with the first team, I hung out with the first team, I had a dietician again."
