Arsenal have joined Tottenham Hotspur in holding an interest in young Auxerre forward Paul-Georges Ntep, as Gunners boss Arsene Wenger looks for a surprise option to boost his attacking options in January.

Ntep has taken big strides forward this season, scoring three goals in eight games for Auxerre, while he has also struck twice in two matches in the Coupe de la Ligue.

However, perhaps the 21-year-old's most eye-catching displays have come on the international stage with France's Under-21s.

Indeed, in France Under-21s' bid to qualify for the next European Championship, Ntep has found the back of the net four times in five outings, providing another two assists for good measure.

Little surprise then that the Senegal-born hitman has attracted the eyes of a number of suitors.

Tottenham and Aston Villa are both alive to Ntep's talents, while within France two Ligue 1 sides in Lille and Monaco are tracking the goalscorer.

However, all could be usurped by Arsenal, with Gunners boss Arsene Wenger having made contact with Auxerre to officially register his interest in Ntep, according to French outlet Le 10 Sport.

Wenger is thought to be lining up an official move for the youngster in January, with a bid of between €8m and €10m expected to do the trick and tempt Auxerre into selling.

Sitting in mid-table in Ligue 2, Auxerre are thought likely to have to make at least one sale in the new year to ease their financial worries.
