Liverpool midfielder Joe Allen believes the competition for places at Anfield is extremely healthy, even if it is keeping him out of the starting eleven.

Allen has appeared in pole position to grab a regular midfield berth, but then saw his campaign disrupted through an injury picked up in a League Cup clash against Notts County.

Now back and fit, Allen is keen to play, though he understands the competition to do just that is fierce.

"I'm working hard and waiting patiently for my chance, but Liverpool is a massive club and we are having a great season", the Wales international told his club's official site.

"The competition for places is really good and you want that at a top club, and I have to work as hard as I can to get back into the fold.

"You want to see your team doing well, especially when you are out injured – the lift you get is from seeing your team doing well.

"Hopefully with the momentum we are gaining now we can keep going and in an ideal world I would like to be a big part of that."

Allen will be hoping for game time tomorrow with Wales in action against Finland in an international friendly.
