Former Portugal youth international Alex Marques has died aged 20, after collapsing during a third-division game between Tourizense and Carapinheirense yesterday.

Marques, who played for Tourizense, collapsed in the seventh minute of the game and died on his way to the hospital.

The 20-year-old had been a former FC Porto youth player as well, and the news of his death was confirmed by Tourizense president Jorge Alexandre, according to Portuguese outlet Record.

Initial suggestions as to the cause of death point to cardiac arrest, as Marques was seen collapsing with neither player nor ball near him at the time.
