New Inter Milan president Erick Thohir is targeting the 2016 Champions League final as the ultimate cap on what he hopes are three years of "consistency" at the San Siro.

Thohir officially took over the Inter presidency from Massimo Moratti last week as the focus shifts from majority shareholding to the winter transfer window.

Inter will be looking to improve upon last season's ninth-place finish, though Thohir is already looking forward to the 2016 Champions League final, which will take place at the San Siro.

Walter Mazzarri's side are currently fourth in the table, and Thohir yesterday told RAI: "We have a good basis for the next two-to-three years.

"But Inter have to prepare for 2016 when the Champions League final will be in Milan. I cannot be here for every game but I will be an Inter fan from a distance.

"I will get up at 2:45 in the morning to see the match from Indonesia. I told the team that they will win only when they play with their hearts."

Inter have already been linked with several names for the winter transfer window, but when asked about possible targets, Thohir said: "We are building a system, where we will choose the most suitable ones for the game and for the coach.

"I will never be able to do what Moratti did in his 18 years, but the point is to obtain consistent results over time.

"[Serie A] can go back to being one of the major leagues in the world and regain ground on the Premier League, La Liga, and the Bundesliga."
