Cristiano Ronaldo is all set to be immortalised, at least in terms of his memorabilia, with a museum dedicated to the Portuguese set to open in his native country.

According to Portuguese outlet Diario de Noticias, the Real Madrid forward is funding a museum to house many of his various awards, football kits and the like in Funchal, Madeira, where he was born.

The establishment is believed to be pushed along by Ronaldo's family, with the winger currently on international duty in the World Cup playoffs.

Among the many items set to be on display will be Ronaldo's 2008 Ballon d'Or award, something he has been nominated for again in 2013.

His Golden Boot from the Premier League for the 2007/08 season with Manchester United is also expected to be part of the museum's collection.

Ronaldo is arguably the most famous person in Portugal, and it is hoped the museum will help bring more tourists in.

The 28-year-old is passionately supported in his home country as evidenced by the reaction that emanated following FIFA president Sepp Blatter's apparent joke on "hairdressers" and "commanders".

Blatter's joke during a speech at Oxford University prompted former Portugal star Paulo Futre to call for his resignation.

"It is not possible for someone to attack one of the symbols of football and get away like that", Futre had added. "From now on, Blatter will be a persona-non-grata in Portugal. It is best for him not to go there."
