Ilkay Gundogan has insisted that he will first try to reach a contract agreement with Borussia Dortmund before looking elsewhere.

The Germany schemer's contract with the Ruhr giants expires in the summer of 2015 and he is not short of suitors, with Barcelona, Real Madrid and Manchester United all having been linked with making a move to secure his services.

Should Gundogan not pen an extension by next summer, it is likely Dortmund will look to sell the midfielder to avoid another Robert Lewandowski situation developing; the striker is poised to exit on a free transfer in 2014 when his deal expires.

But Gundogan is prepared to give Dortmund every chance to negotiate a new deal with him.

Asked by reporters about his contractual situation, he replied: "Dortmund is my first point of contact."

Gundogan is currently sidelined through injury and is expected to return to action for Dortmund only in the new year.

The 23-year-old joined Dortmund in 2011, making the move from fellow German side Nurnberg.
