AC Milan have set their sights on snapping up Atletico Madrid midfielder Koke, but face a battle to sign the 21-year-old in January.

According to Spanish daily El Mundo Deportivo, Milan have already sounded Koke out about a switch to Serie A and are readying a €4m bid.

However, signing the Spaniard looks a tough ask for the Rossoneri, with Atletico Madrid not keen on letting him leave.

And with Koke's release clause sitting at a healthy €35m, well beyond Milan's reach, such a stance could scupper any chance of a deal.

Koke has been on the development fast-track over the last 18 months and capped off his progress this summer when helping Spain's Under-21s to win the European Championship.

He has also broken through into the senior Spain squad, with seven caps under his belt already, and is eyeing heading to the World Cup with Vicente del Bosque's men.
