Paris Saint-Germain have Newcastle midfielder Yohan Cabaye in their sights as coach Laurent Blanc looks to bolster his engine room in January.

Blanc has admitted that he would like to sign a midfielder in the winter window, but crucially went some way towards ruling out a swoop for Chelsea's Juan Mata by explaining he sees little point in adding someone to his squad that cannot play in all competitions; Mata would be cup-tied for the Champions League.

According to French daily Le Parisien, that places Cabaye at the top of PSG's wanted list, especially with the France international keen to play Champions League football.

Cabaye recently indicated that he longs to sample the blue ribbon competition, words which Newcastle manager Alan Pardew quickly replied to by telling the former Lille man to help the Magpies qualify.

Signing Cabaye would also offer another added bonus for PSG, as the capital club remain keen to add more French players to their ranks.

PSG could face competition for the pass-master however as Liverpool are also tracking Cabaye, while Arsenal lodged a bid, which was rejected, for the player in the summer.

Cabaye even went on temporary strike to force through a move to the Emirates Stadium, eventually failing and being forced to remain at St. James' Park.
