Napoli could be readying a big-money approach for Schalke forward Jefferson Farfan though they may well face stiff competition from Galatasaray.

Farfan has gone through injury problems this season with Schalke, in addition to disciplinary issues with the Peru national team.

And according to Peruvian outlet La Republica, Napoli are prepared to shell out €20m for Farfan, who is contracted at Schalke until 2016.

Napoli manager Rafael Benitez is understood to appreciate Farfan's talents, and the former Liverpool manager's tendency to buy this season is well known.

The winter transfer market could once again prove a happy hunting ground for Benitez, though it will not be without some financial resistance.

Turkish giants Galatasaray have already shown their interest in Farfan this year, though, at the time, Schalke did not appear keen to sell him.

"Galatasaray have shown an interest in Jefferson Farfan but we have no interest in entertaining that," Schalke sporting director Horst Heldt had said in July.

Farfan has been at Schalke since 2008 and has been a regular figure up front for the German side. He boasts nine Bundesliga appearances with four goals this season.
