Liverpool full-back Jon Flanagan has explained that he wants to keep repaying manager Brendan Rodgers’ faith in him by putting in impressive performances for his side.

The 20-year-old, who has been playing as a left-back for the Reds due to Jose Enrique’s absence owing to an injury, scored his first senior goal for the club in their 5-0 rout of Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

And the youngster believes his confidence is increasing with every game and feels he has shown Rodgers what he is capable of doing.

Flanagan, who has six Premier League appearances to his name this season, also admitted that he had a tough time breaking into Liverpool’s first team and that injuries last term hampered his progress.

However, the England Under-21 international is unwilling to rest on his laurels as he feels he has still a lot of scope for improvement.

"I know I've still got a lot to learn”, Flanagan was quoted as saying by his club’s official site.

“Brendan has given me a run in the team but I have to keep repaying that faith with good performances.

“My confidence is growing with every game and I'm feeling more like part of the team. It's up to me to keep it going.

"It was hard for a long time because I wasn't sure if I would get a chance. I had a difficult time with injuries last season.

"I've just kept my head down, worked hard and made sure I was ready when the chance came. Hopefully I've shown the manager now what I can do.”
