Manchester United left-back Alexander Buttner has been offered to Italian Serie A side Genoa, who are now considering whether to move for the Dutchman.

Buttner had been hopeful of heading out on loan this season in search of regular first team football and his agent had lined up a switch to Besiktas.

However, following Manchester United's failure to sign a new left-back, Buttner's departure was blocked.

He has continued to play second fiddle to Patrice Evra and a lack of regular game time is worrying the former Vitesse man, who still holds out hope of going to the World Cup.

Now, according to Sky Italia, Buttner has been proposed to Genoa as a possible signing in January.

Whether any deal would take the form of a loan or permanent move remains unclear, but the Rossoblu may be able to offer Buttner better first team prospects.

Buttner was signed for Manchester United by current manager David Moyes' predecessor Sir Alex Ferguson.
