Alexander Buttner's agent has explained that former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson promised to give his client 20 games this season, but now with the situation very different under David Moyes, the Dutchman is hoping for a loan.

The left-back had been poised to sign for Turkish Super Lig club Besiktas on loan in the summer, however Manchester United's failure to sign either Leighton Baines or Fabio Coentrao saw that deal vetoed.

Now Buttner is fretting as he is eager to secure playing time in a bid to push for a spot in Holland coach Louis van Gaal's 2014 World Cup squad.

"He has ambitions of going to the World Cup, so it's clear he must play more games than has been the case", Buttner's agent Alexander Bursac said via NOS.

"Clear agreements were made with former manager Sir Alex Ferguson: In the first season 15 games, in the second 20.

"But after Ferguson's departure that agreement is worth nothing."

Now Bursac is back thinking about a loan for his client, with Italian duo Roma and Genoa potential destinations.

And Buttner's agent is crossing his fingers for Manchester United not to stand in the way.

"United are aware of them and the clubs have also come to me", he explained.

"I hope that the club cooperates in setting up a loan."

Buttner was handed the final ten minutes in Manchester United's 3-1 win over West Ham at Old Trafford, but dislodging regular left-back Patrice Evra looks mission impossible for the Dutchman.

The 24-year-old made 13 senior appearances for the Premier League champions under Ferguson last term.
