Jari Litmanen is eyeing a return to former club Ajax in a coaching capacity and believes succeeding Dennis Bergkamp, as he did as a player, would complete a perfect circle.

In a glittering playing career, Litmanen notably took in spells at Ajax, Barcelona and Liverpool. He helped Ajax to win the Champions League in 1995, in the pinnacle of a playing stint which also saw 137 caps won for Finland.

He last played in his homeland for HJK Helsinki in 2011 and is now aiming for a coaching experience.

"Ajax for me remains special, always. When the time comes [to return as a coach] I must be ready for it", he told Het Parool.

And returning to take Bergkamp's place, with the former Arsenal man currently serving as an assistant to coach Frank de Boer, would suit Litmanen down to the ground.

"I broke through at Ajax as the successor to Dennis Bergkamp.

"So if he went somewhere else to coach, one day I could follow him again.

"Of course, that would be a wonderful story."
