Besiktas could spring a surprise coup this winter with plans to snap up Manchester City defender Joleon Lescott on a free transfer.

According to Turkish outlet NTV Spor, the Black and Whites have already made some principle contacts with Lescott.

The 31-year-old has not enjoyed much regularity under Manuel Pellegrini this season and is on just 13 appearances in all competitions.

With his contract expiring next summer, Besiktas are hoping to pick him up for free with the opportunity to sign a pre-contract fast approaching.

It is believed that Lescott is not averse to switching to Turkey, given that Besiktas are ready to offer a €2.2m salary for his services.

With the Citizens relying heavily on Vincent Kompany and Matija Nastasic now that Martin Demichelis is injured, Lescott is seeing fewer games.

It remains to be seen if Manchester City will allow the centre-back to leave before the expiration of his current deal.
