Valencia are firmly in the race to snap up Barcelona winger Cristian Tello on loan, but it is far from clear that the Catalan giants wish to allow the youngster to leave.

Liverpool are long-time fans of Tello and initial reports from Spain had suggested that the Spaniard was set to head to Anfield on loan for the second half of the current campaign.

However, Barcelona were quick to poor cold water on that suggestion, even though it does not completely shut the door to a Tello exit.

While Barcelona coach Gerardo Martino does not want to let the 22-year-old go, according to Valencia-based daily Super Deporte, Tello's agent is set to meet with Blaugrana sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta to inform him of his client's desire for more playing time.

It remains to be seen whether that can be satisfied at the Camp Nou.

And as well as Liverpool, Valencia are watching developments closely.

Los Che are keen to add Tello's attacking verve to their ranks for the second half of the season and a switch to the Mestalla may represent a move closer to home for the winger which he finds suitable.
