Yes, Aston Villa Track Steven Defour – Agent Confirms English Side’s Interest in FC Porto Midfielder

Friday, 3rd January, 2014

Aston Villa are one of a number of teams interested in FC Porto's out-of-favour midfielder Steven Defour, the player's agent has explained.

Defour has struggled for playing time at Porto and, in a World Cup year, that is concerning for the midfielder, who wants to book his spot in Marc Wilmots' Belgium squad and head to Brazil in tip top form.

The exit door seems to be beckoning a man Sir Alex Ferguson watched closely during his time at Standard Liege and Aston Villa are just one of the sides with representatives waiting with a taxi outside it.

"Aston Villa have indeed indicated that they are interested in Defour", Paul Stefani explained to Voetbalkrant.

"But it is not really concrete yet", he added.

"There are also more teams that I cannot name. Unfortunately, in this period so much is said. You shouldn't expect news before 10th January. A lot of people who are involved in this business, after all, are still on holiday until that date."

And the player's representative explained that Defour is on the lookout for "a nice club", even if he is not absolutely desperate to leave Portugal.

"I've spoken to Steven. He is certainly open to a nice club, provided that he has more chance of playing.

"But he is certainly not unhappy at Porto, though he does want to play football in view of the World Cup."
