Newcastle United are pondering a bid for Lyon midfielder Gueida Fofana, according to L'Equipe, but will face competition from Stuttgart.
Fofana is a graduate of the prestigious Le Havre academy and was of interest to Aston Villa and Bordeaux back in 2011.

And Newcastle have revived England's admiration for the France youth player, who is contracted at Lyon until 2015.
Newcastle have already made scouting trips to observe Fofana, and will be bracing themselves for Stuttgart's moves.

However, it is also understood that Lyon are unwilling to sell him, and are, instead, ready to offer Fofana a contract renewal.
With Lyon struggling to keep hold of captain and Maxime Gonalons, Fofana, who plays in the same position, will be a key retainer for coach Remi Garde.
Fofana has been at Lyon since 2011 and has made 89 appearances for them with four goals as well.
