Liverpool first-team coach Mike Marsh has insisted that it is a big boost for his side to be towards the top end of the Premier League table.

The Reds, who saw off Hull City 2-0 in their last league outing on New Year’s Day, are currently fourth in the standings with 39 points from 20 games, just six points adrift of first-placed Arsenal.

And Marsh, who feels Liverpool will improve further, wants the Merseyside club to put in strong performances, similar to those produced in the second half of last term’s campaign.

The 44-year-old further revealed that the Anfield outfit are keen to come out with positive results from their upcoming fixtures, in view of remaining towards the top end of the Premier League table.

"I think we will improve.I think we're improving in every area, defensively and offensively”, Marsh explained to Liverpool’s official site.

"We're working hard every day and if last season is anything to go by, then in this second half of the season we'll come on strong.

"It's important that you keep on picking up results and keep as close to the top four and to the top of the table as possible.

“You don't want to fall too far behind because it's difficult to make such a big gap up. We're aiming to win every game and stay in there.

"It's a boost when you look at the table, see the TV or you read the newspaper and Liverpool are on top or up around the top of the table.

“So it's important we try and stay around there. Psychologically, it's a big boost for the squad."

Liverpool are next up against Stoke City, who are 12th in the Premier League table, in an away fixture on Sunday.
