Manchester United and Arsenal will have to shell out at least €30m if they desire to snap up Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho, according to A Bola.

Carvalho has already been scouted on several occasions by Manchester United, whose midfield has been affected by injury and a lack of strength this campaign.

Arsenal, meanwhile, began their interest in early December, though Sporting Lisbon are not overly keen on letting their star man leave.

Indeed, that is the precise reason why the princely transfer sum of €30m has been tagged on, with Sporting hoping it will dissuade any and all interested parties.

The playmaker already has a reported €45m release clause, and it remains to be seen if Manchester United will convert their Portuguese scouting trips into anything concrete.

The 21-year-old Carvalho made his footballing bones with Sporting, but has also turned out on loan for CD Fatima and Belgian outfit Cercle Brugge.

His performances for Sporting even saw him make his Portugal senior debut this year, when he played 18 minutes of theirWorld Cup playoff second-leg victory over Sweden.

Carvalho has started all of Sporting's 14 Primeira Liga games this season, and even scored the first of his two goals in the 3-1 late-October defeat to rivals FC Porto.
