Marko Marin has picked up a new admirer in the shape of Bundesliga giants Schalke, although it is far from clear whether the German side will be able to snap up the attacking midfielder.

The 24-year-old is under contract to English outfit Chelsea, though the Blues have loaned him to La Liga club Sevilla for the entire season.

According to Seville-based daily Estadio Deportivo, Schalke are hoping to take over Marin's loan and keep him at Gelsenkirchen for the second half of the Bundesliga campaign.

Chelsea are thought to be open to that idea, but Sevilla would have to agree to terminate their own loan agreement with the former Werder Bremen man.

And Los Rojiblancos look unlikely to do that with Marin having made a positive impression in Spain.

The Germany international has impressed in his eight league outings so far, a figure which would have been higher but for a hamstring injury suffered in October.

Marin's contract at Chelsea runs until 2017.
