Liverpool have been stirred into action over Hellas Verona playmaker Jorginho, vowing to match Napoli's offer for the Brazilian-born talent.

Fiorentina have been making the running for Jorginho this month, meeting with the player's agent and attempting to do a deal to add him to coach Vincenzo Montella's ranks.

Napoli have since waded in with a concrete bid, set at an initial €7.5m with a possible €2.5m to come based on future performances.

Rafael Benitez's men have been confident of snapping up Jorginho, but Liverpool's entry into the race complicates matters.

According to Italian outlet Sportmediaset, Liverpool are ready to match Napoli's bid for Jorginho, leaving the ball firmly in the player's court over his future destination.

Liverpool had scouts in the stands at Verona's 3-0 home defeat to Napoli on Sunday, a match which had also allowed Azzurri directors a chance to directly discuss a deal with the Gialloblu leadership.

But with Liverpool now in the mix, the jury is out on where Jorginho will end up.

The attack-minded midfielder has enjoyed a superb campaign with Verona so far this season, powering a genuine European spot tilt for the newly-promoted side.

Jorginho has also racked up a number of other suitors over the course of this season, making it possible a number of other clubs will enter the race.

Also linked with the Brazilian-born schemer are Roma, Juventus, Arsenal, Chelsea and Zenit St. Petersburg.
