Napoli are stepping up their pursuit of Hellas Verona midfielder Jorginho by sending their sporting director to Milan to meet the player's agent.

The Azzurri are pushing to do a deal for the Brazil-born schemer, but face serious opposition from English giants Liverpool, while fellow Serie A outfit Fiorentina are also in the race.

Now, according to Sky Italia, Napoli sporting director Riccardo Bigon is heading for a meeting with Jorginho's agent as the Azzurri attempt to wrap up a deal before their competitors.

Napoli are extremely active in the transfer market this month and are also talking to Tottenham Hotspur over midfielder Etienne Capoue, while a centre-back remains a potential acquisition.

Jorginho, who helped Verona to win promotion from Serie B last season, has shone in Serie A in the current campaign.

The 22-year-old has found the back of the net seven times in 18 Serie A games, while he has also provided four assists.

Jorginho's contract with Verona runs until 2016.
