Napoli have been unable to reach an agreement with Tottenham Hotspur over midfielder Etienne Capoue.

The Serie A side had seen a €9m bid for the Frenchman rejected by Spurs, but the club's sporting director Riccardo Bigon travelled to London earlier today in an attempt to broker a deal.

However, according to Sky Italia, Spurs want €13m for the former Toulouse man, a player they paid €11m to sign in the summer.

For Napoli, that sum has been deemed excessive and no agreement was reached in discussions between the two clubs.

The Italian side will now wait and hope Spurs reconsider their position in the coming days, although alternatives are also being studied.

One of these is Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien, a player Bigon took the opportunity of being in London to request information about from the Blues.

The Ghana international, who has also been linked with AC Milan, is though third choice for Napoli, who are still keen on Rubin Kazan's Yann M'Vila in the event that no agreement can be found on Capoue.
