Arsenal had scouts at last night's Ligue 1 game between Saint-Etienne and Lille, as they run the rule over defender Pape Souare.

The 23-year-old left-back has been identified by the Gunners as a possible future addition and, according to French magazine But! Arsenal had talent spotters taking in his performance for Lille.

Souare played all 90 minutes of the Ligue 1 clash, but came away disappointed as Lille went down to a 2-0 defeat.

The defender has been something of a mainstay for Lille this term, making 20 appearances in the French top flight for Rene Girard's men.

A Senegal international, Souare has long been highly rated and has been tied down to a contract running until the summer of 2017 by Lille.
