Liverpool have stepped up their scouting efforts on Red Bull Salzburg starlet Valon Berisha, even though the player is unaware of any potential interest.

According to Norwegian outlet Rbnett, Liverpool were observing the former Viking FK midfielder when Salzburg beat Bayern Munich in a winter-break friendly recently.

Brendan Rodgers' staff had already made a previous scouting trip when Red Bull played host to Austria Wien in mid-December in the league.

Indeed, Liverpool seem to be using their links with former manager Gerard Houllier to great effect – Houllier is currently the "global director for Red Bull’s portfolio of clubs", including RB Salzburg.

However, when asked about the trips, Berisha was quoted as saying: "I know no more about this. Contact agent Jim Solbakken if you have any questions."

It is believed that should Liverpool wish to table a bid, Salzburg will demand a fee in the region of €12m.

The 20-year-old, contracted at Salzburg until 2016, is one of the rising stars of Norway, and already boasts 11 senior caps with the national side.
