Chelsea forward Fernando Torres is set for a minimum three-week absence from this point on, but will not require surgery on the knee injury suffered last weekend.

Torres came on as a 79th-minute substitute against Manchester United in his side's 3-1 win at the weekend, but picked up ligament damage deep in the second half.

The Spaniard had already gone through a hamstring injury earlier this season, and the latest news will be a blow to both him and Chelsea.

"It will be one month or three weeks, something like that", Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho told a press conference today.

"It's not a surgery situation, but it's not a little strain.

"It's a lateral ligament injury and will take, at this point, three more weeks."

Torres has so far made 17 appearances for Chelsea in the Premier League, though with just 11 starts in that.

He has managed four goals though, and had scored two in two games prior to the 3-1 victory over Manchester United.
