Stoke City target Mauro Icardi is looking likely to join Monaco this month, according to infosport.fr, just over a week after the Potters' bid was turned down.

Inter Milan rejected Stoke City's approach earlier this month, even though Icardi is short of game time since joining them last summer.

The 20-year-old has suffered injuries this season as well, meaning he has made just the eight substitute appearances in the league.

Monaco are keen to find a replacement for the injured Radamel Falcao – after sending Lacina Traore to Everton on loan – and Icardi has emerged as a healthy option.

Icardi's national star is also on the rise ahead of the World Cup, after he was called up as back-up to then-injured Lionel Messi by Argentina last year.

He made his Argentina senior debut as a late substitute in the World Cup qualifier defeat to Uruguay in October.

Icardi is a former Barcelona youth academy product but found his first-team opportunities in Italy with Sampdoria before switching to Inter Milan.
