Romelu Lukaku insists he never saw himself missing the World Cup with injury, after vowing to boost Everton's Champions League chase with his return.

Everton boss Roberto Martinez today expressed hope the Belgian would be back to match fitness within the next two weekends.

Lukaku is nursing an ankle injury, but the initial fears of months on the sidelines were played down.

The 20-year-old, who is on loan from Chelsea, will be a key figure for Belgium, given he has been Everton's top scorer so far this season.

And when asked if he ever feared missing out like his England counterpart Theo Walcott, Lukaku told RTBF: "No, I was pretty quiet [after the incident].

"When I saw the doctor in the dressing room, we did some tests that reassured me. The next day, I had a scan which showed that there was nothing serious. So I stayed very calm.

"The [Everton] fans can expect some great performances [when I return from injury].

"Personally, I just hope my statistics continue from the last year and I will try to help my team to qualify for the next Champions League."
