Newcastle United forward Yoan Gouffran has revealed that his side are “ashamed” after going down 4-0 against Tottenham Hotspur at St. James' Park last night.

Emmanuel Adebayor opened the scoring in the 19th minute before Paulinho doubled Spurs’ advantage after the break.

The Togolose then grabbed his second in the 82nd minute and Nacer Chadli rounded off the scoring six minutes later.

And Gouffran explained after the game that Newcastle, who have managed to pick just a solitary point from their last four Premier League outings, are extremely ashamed because of their display against Tottenham in front of the Magpies faithful.

“We are really disappointed, downbeat and feel very ashamed, especially for the fans”, the Frenchman told his club’s official site.

“We have got injuries and suspensions but we don’t want to use that as an excuse.

“Everything went wrong. From the first minute we just couldn’t get into the match and then we conceded pretty soon after. We paid for that and couldn’t get going.”

However, despite Newcastle’s heavy loss, the match was good for Gouffran on a personal note as the 27-year-old made his first appearance in almost a month following a groin injury.

“For me, it was good to be back as I was getting a bit sick of waiting to be back to full fitness”, he added.
