Belgium coach Marc Wilmots has told Marouane Fellaini, Thomas Vermaelen, Nacer Chadli and Toby Alderweireld that they do not have to fear for their spot in his World Cup squad.

All have not enjoyed the regular game time Wilmots would like this term, due to injury or non-selection, but the Belgium boss believes it would be madness to leave such talented performers at home, with the only thing that could derail that plan being their fitness.

"Why would I leave guys like Fellaini, Vermaelen, Chadli and Alderweireld at home if they are fit?" Wilmots mused to Het Laatste Nieuws.

"For our opening match on 17th June in Brazil we have five weeks to prepare – that's nearly as long as pre-season at a club.

Belgium have been placed in Group H in the World Cup, alongside Algeria, Russia and South Korea.

Wilmots men are seen as dark horses for the tournament in some quarters, but will not want to lose any of their key performers to injury.
